Cries from prominent Tanzanian media personalities and the opposition, demanding the outspoken Regional Commissioner Paul Makonda apologize for his alleged blatant antics Friday has finally usher in investigation by Tanzania minister responsible for Arts & Sports, Nape Mosses Nnauye.
The no-nonsense and anti-corruption regional commissioner of Tanzania largest city, Dar es salaam found himself in hot water on the weekend, when he, accompanied by several gun carrying police officers invaded country’s popular, Clouds TV studios demanding their staff, editors go ‘live’ with Makonda’s video clip, that station’s media director said it lacked balance when it comes to journalism ethics.
Makonda’s name has lately shot to prominence in Tanzania news headlines for all the good reason until Friday’s incident. The R.C has been on the front line in the fight against drugs that has devastated many Tanzanian youths in urban areas of the country. However, the methods used to round up those suspected to be involved in drug trafficking has come under fire from the opposition and other community leaders, they say Makonda’s ways are one of impunity and does not respect the rule of law.
