Duka la dawa mashuhuri Canada imepeleka rasmi maombi serikalini ya kuwa msambazaji wa bangi nchini.

“We have applied to be a licensed producer strictly for the purposes of distributing medical marijuana,” Shoppers Drug Mart spokeswoman Tammy Smitham told CBC News in an email Tuesday.

“Hatuna nia ya kuotesha au kuzalisha bangi (ya matibabu) bali tunataka tupewe uwezo wa kuwahudumia wale wagonjwa waliona vyeti kutoka madaktari unaowaruhusu kutumia bangi kwa ajili ya matibabu yao mbali mbali,” aliongeza Smitham.

Kwa mujibu wa Shirika la Habari la Canada (CBC). Data za serikali ya Canada zinaonesha takriban raia 75,000 wa Canada walikuwa na vyeti (prescriptions for medical marijuana) halali kufikia Juni mwaka huu – ni ongezeko la zaidi ya mara tatu kutoka mwaka jana. Raia hao wameshanunua kilo 4,000 za ‘medical marijuana’ mpaka sasa, hiyo ni sawa na gramu (kete) moja ya bangi kwa kila mmoja wao.

Serikali ya Canada ipo njiani kuhalalisha utumiajia wa bangi kwa ajili ya matibabu ya magonjwa kadhaa ikiwemo Pumu (Asthma)

Licha ya serikali bado kupitisha sheria hiyo tayari kuna zahanati kadhaa za kuuza bangi mjini Totonto.
